Cleveland Chess is currently organizing a scholastic chess league for the 2008-2009 school year. All elementary and middle schools located on the west side of Cleveland are invited to participate.
Overview

Entry is open to students currently enrolled in grades K through 8. Each school's chess team will be comprised of five players and will face other schools in a match each month throughout the school year

Games will be played after school hours

Matches alternate among schools

Trophies will be awarded to the top three schools at the end of the year

One time entry fee is $10 per student with a $50 maximum per team

Each school team will need an adult (parent or teacher) sponsor. The sponsor will receive tournament mailings, schedules and updates. Sponsors will also coordinate any necessary changes regarding times and schedules with the other schools

The Scholastic Chess League will be directed by Dan Patterson. Dan has been a member of the United States Chess Federation since 1974 and is currently a certified tournament director. Mr. Patterson also coaches the chess club at Westside Christian Academy* in Westlake where his three children attend.
